MY GRANDFATHER, PERUCHO ROJAS

Ever since I was little,  my grandfather has always been there to encourage me in my journey. My creative writing skills wouldn’t have emerged if it wasn’t for him. When I was younger, I used to enjoy writing letters to my relatives. My grandfather always admired my writing and suggested I continued to follow my passions.

My grandfather once said to me,”There’s a reason why people do things in life. Every person in this world is here for a purpose. You go and them your story.”

I have never stopped writing. Writing became a way to express myself to the world and every day he serves as an inspiration to everything I do.

Sarah Dessen, a former creative writing professor at UNC Chapel Hill, is my favorite writer. She writes Young Adult/Teen Fiction novels that inspire young adult women. Every time she makes an appearance at Chapel Hill, I make sure I show up to talk to her. I get a lot of insight about writing and find inspiration in her wisdom.
