This summer has been wonderful. I got the chance to start an internship with Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC) as their Events intern. And it has been oh such a life-changing experience!
I started it out in May and ever since then, my life has changed. I’ve not only gotten the chance to learn a whole new set of skills, but I have gotten to meet the most wonderful and nicest people I have ever encountered.
While interning, I got two supervisors, from which I got different tasks during the week.
- I got to work with the logistics manager, Morgan, with whom I got to work with the logistics that went into all the events in the summer. We did everything from planning an event to making sure the venues necessary were secured.
- I also got the chance to work with the families and volunteer director, Katie, with whom I applied my writing skills. I wrote articles, came up with new programs for the organization, updated the website, etc.

The people at SONC are great. I only have one more week left there. It’s sad to think about it but I am now getting ready to embark in a new chapter of my life. But I am really looking forward to next week! I get to go to the SONC Leadership Conference in Raleigh.
I could go on and on about my experience with SONC. It really has changed me for the better. Just being able to make a difference through the work I do is a great feeling. I realized that working for non-profits is something that I’d definitely continue to pursue.
Today, the staff and interns all went out to breakfast together. There, I received this beautiful plaque. I feel really thankful for this wonderful experience and look forward to keep making a difference in everything I do!
